Small Matters: Becoming Faithful With LittleSample

Small Matters: Becoming Faithful With Little

DAY 2 OF 5

Do More With Less

One day, I found myself taking inventory of everything I didn't have and using that list to justify why I couldn't achieve what I wanted to do, which led me down a rabbit hole of complaining about my current circumstances and what I didn't have. Fortunately, this pity party didn't last long when I came across the passage in the Bible about Jesus feeding the five thousand with only five loaves and two fish. Jesus had been speaking to the masses in a deserted area when his disciples asked him to send the people away to nearby villages so they could buy themselves food. Instead, Jesus asked his disciples to give them something to eat, but they were astonished at such an unreasonable request because they didn’t have the means to do so. Jesus then asked them what they had, and they offered up very little, simply five loaves and two fish. Jesus wasn’t working with much but demonstrated how to do more with less. The Bible says that Jesus took the bread and gave thanks to God for what he had, and he broke the bread, and it began to multiply.

Reflecting on this passage, I soon realized the glaring life principles I had missed when complaining about what I didn't have. Instead, I could do more by giving thanks for what I had and putting the little I had to work.

When you are thankful for what you have, it helps you value what you are working with instead of despising it because it's not enough or too small. When you value something, you start to see the possibility of what it can become, which unlocks the exponential potential that lies within the little you have. Just as a tiny seed is packed with potential and only bears fruit when planted, so it is when you work the little you have. When I applied these principles to my life, I saw God do incredible things as I stepped out to make the most of what I had.

What do you have? What's in your hand? The miracle of God's grace often shows up as you step out in faith to work what you have. Don't delay; begin with what you have. We all have something, even if it's small. Let's learn to be good stewards of what we have and do more with less.
