Discovery Pathway Classes - Baptism and Spirit-Filled LivingSample
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12
Today is your baptism! This is one of the most important days of your whole life! Let that settle in for a moment. When you head into the water today, you will probably have many things on your mind. You might experience the excitement, and maybe a little nervousness, of standing in front of a crowd. Take a moment to look at their faces. The church, the people gathered in front of you today, are excited for you! Remember, Jesus also stood before a crowd on his baptism day. Enjoy talking with him about the experience throughout your day. As you look out at the crowd, remember that many of these men and women have stood in the same place you will stand. You are standing among brothers and sisters in Christ!
As you come out of the water today, remember that you have taken off your old life and left it behind. You have a fresh start because of Jesus. In Colossians, Paul tells us what it looks like to take off the old life and put on the new life. He describes the kind of “clothes” from the old life that need to be removed. He also describes the “clothes” we put on as children of God.
As you read today, pay close attention to what Paul describes as the “clothes” of God’s chosen people. Spend time praying that God will help you to clothe yourself with these beautiful clothes so that you look more and more like Jesus. Write down what you experience and what God says to you during this time.
