Reflections From God's Story of Hope

DAY 97 OF 100

Satan's Final Doom

At the close of the earthly reign of Jesus Christ, after a brief final rebellion against God, Satan will be cast into the lake of fire where he will be punished with everlasting conscious torment.

From pure and innocent to evil and deceiving.

From unparalleled beauty to appearance of beauty, but truly devilish hideousness.

From worshiping God and basking in His glory to suffering eternal torment in the Lake of Fire.

That’s Satan, from beginning to end. God created him as one of the most beautiful, intelligent creatures of all. But he became proud; he wanted to be like God; he wanted to take God’s place. So he was thrown out, cast down from his high position, taking other angels with him. At that point God prepared a place of eternal fire for him and his followers.

Then Satan began to tempt mankind. He started with Eve in the garden and won’t quit until God judges him definitively. After Satan tempted Eve in the form of a serpent, God cursed him and declared war between Satan and the woman. He told Satan that a descendant from the woman would deal the crushing deathblow to him.

The Satan-Conqueror came, born of a woman in Palestine at just the right time. His name was Jesus. He didn’t fail when tempted by Satan. He completely and perfectly resisted temptations designed specifically for and aimed directly at Him. Many times during His life on earth, Jesus demonstrated that He was more powerful than Satan and his demons by casting them out of people they possessed.

Then, on an historic day outside Jerusalem, Jesus dealt that crushing deathblow mentioned centuries earlier when He gave His life to free all mankind from Satan’s power. That’s why He came on the scene: to abolish and put an end to Satan’s works. You see, since we are made of flesh and blood, it makes sense that Jesus took on flesh and blood, became a man. His death was the only way to rescue us. By embracing death He canceled out any hold Satan had on death and freed us who are afraid of and subject to death. Jesus’ cross was the conquering blow against Satan, but it won’t be fully applied until a future date.

During the Millennium, Satan will be bound. Imagine that, bound for 1,000 years and not able to influence mankind during that time. How wonderful that will be!

But at the end of that time, Satan will be loosed one last time. Think of it: he will certainly be frustrated and angry and ready to attack with 1,000 years’ worth of schemes, machinations, and revenge. In a moment he will soar from his prison to launch his plan to deceive the nations—what he had done for centuries before. Satan will search high and low on earth for enemies of God. He will convince them to go to war against God, gathering the greatest human army ever, millions strong. They will advance on and lay siege to Jerusalem.

But as soon as they arrive, fire will course from Heaven and consume the armies. From among the smoldering, malodorous bodies, the one who deceived them will be whisked away and hurled into Fire and Brimstone Lake, where his servants, the beast and the false prophet, will already be suffering. There they will continue in agonizing torment endlessly.
