Fight With What You Have
- Pastor Marcus Marshall
“David defeated Goliath with a sling and a rock. He killed him without even using a sword.” 1 Samuel 17:50 (CEV)
Unlike many people, I am not the best swimmer. I remember being in Hawaii and nearly drowning. I knew how to tread water (doggy paddle), which helped me stay above water. Everyone around me kept screaming, “Kick your feet and swing your arms!” They weren’t aware that I did not have that skill in my bag. But I did know how to tread water enough to keep my head up.
Often, we get in situations where the waves are too high and too strong for us. We think we can't make a difference until we have specific skills. We stand there waiting for someone else to save us because we have yet to learn how to swim.
What opportunities have you rejected because you didn’t think you had what you needed? Is it possible you have made it about what you know how to do rather than what the spirit of God can do through you? Sometimes, all you have is the ability to tread water.
It’s easy to be blinded by what we don’t have. Today, God wants to highlight what you do have. There are things, people, and connections you no longer have or have never had, but be encouraged. God is in what you have. Maybe you’re discouraged because what you used to have is gone - that first marriage, old job, old friendship. You have been spending all your energy to get things back where they were. Instead, God says if you submit it to Me, I will use what you have.
David fought with a sling and a rock because that’s what he had; He didn’t have a sword. He could have been ashamed that he showed up to fight a giant with stones, but he knew God was in what he had. David couldn’t make a difference until he was comfortable with what he did have in his hand.
Make a Difference:
As you go about your day today, remember that all you have is all you need. You may not have the connections, the money, the experience. But what you do have is enough. What’s in your hand?
As You Read:
This week, you will be reading about David defeating Goliath. His Spirit is with you like He was with David. Use what you have this week to impact the Kingdom of God.
