The Blessing of Action
- Pastor Matt Perkins
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” – Proverbs 3:27 (NIV)
In our endless flow of daily tasks, it’s far too simple to miss the profound truth found in Proverbs 3:27. The fast pace of modern life causes us to miss out on opportunities to bless others. However, this Scripture passage is not merely a gentle suggestion.
It is a mandate to recognize our privilege to do good and accept our responsibility.
The common misbelief that we lack the resources, time, or status to make a difference can paralyze us with inaction. However, each of us inherently possesses the ability to be a blessing to others. The question isn’t whether we can make a difference but how we will choose. The “good” to which the Scripture refers encompasses more than mere material or financial aid; it includes encouraging, understanding, and forgiving one another. Take a moment to consider the last time you reached out to support someone in need. Did you pause, considering the cost, or did you embrace the pure delight in being a blessing to someone else?
Recognizing a need is only the beginning; the willingness to spring into action is what truly counts. “When it is in your power to act” suggests that the moment to extend goodness and blessings is divinely appointed. Delayed obedience can be disobedience in disguise.
Our deeds, not our intentions, measure the impact of our lives. Today, let us be attentive to those divine appointments. Be ready to bless others through words, messages, or acts of kindness. Maybe for you, it means offering forgiveness where it’s hardest to give. Whatever form it takes, let us act with a spirit of generosity and love, and in doing so, we become conduits of God’s grace.
Make a Difference:
Today, be the hands and feet of grace. Identify someone in your path who could use a kind gesture and take the initiative. Consider how you can bless them with what you have. Your action could be the answer to someone’s prayer.

This week, we will start to hear and see the wisdom of Solomon. Don’t rush through the history portion, trying to get to the Proverbs. There is a lot we can learn from Israel!
