God Sees You Through the Loving Eyes of a Father
- Pastor Camelia Cross
“Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.” Psalm 25:5 (NKJV)
I heard a father share this personal experience, which he said surprised him and opened a profound understanding that our Father God cares about the details of our lives. He was with his young son when his son’s slinky toy became tangled, and his son became very upset and sad. The dad had been teaching his son the value of praying about everything and asking for God’s help and direction. So, the son said, “Dad, let’s ask God for help.”
What else could he say but “OK!” So, the dad led in a prayer, saying, “Dear God, we need some help here. And we thank you in Jesus’ name.” He said, “I had this thought… ‘Hold the Slinky on the good part and keep turning it over and over.’ Huh! Really? So that’s what I did. And it worked! Who knew? God did! God showed us He cared about a little boy’s concerns, growing faith, and the growing faith of a dad!”
This is a true story. Simple but thought-provoking in application. We struggle with complex work, health, financial, and family challenges. But God already understands each situation from every perspective and wants us to come to Him for His guidance and protection. And Jesus has promised He’ll never leave us, and He’ll be with us every step of the way, directing our efforts – if we ask Him.
Even when we ask God for His wisdom and follow Him to the best of our knowledge, we often come to a place where we can do nothing more but continue to pray, thanking Him in faith for the outcome. That is the time to super-saturate our minds and spirits with God’s promises and thoughts. That is the time to stand our ground, trusting our Lord Jesus to go before us, creatively orchestrating the outcome. That is the time to throw out discouraging, negative, lying thoughts and voice our faith out loud, declaring the promises of God and our trust in Him alone. It’s time to rest in the Lord Jesus and see His deliverance in His way, in His time. He will perfect that which concerns us. And in that process, He will also grow our faith and conform us more and more to His likeness!
