The Word of God is the source of truth for us in all things, including creating and nurturing strong friendships. The Bible speaks of being in relationship with others as an act of obedience—an encouragement that we are better together and as God’s intended design.
An Act of Obedience
As Christians, we look to the Bible as the authoritative, infallible Word of God. So when we read in scripture how God asks us to operate when it comes to friendships, aligning ourselves in word and deed in our response to what God says is an act of obedience that acknowledges Him as the Lord over our lives and our relationships.
Encouragement That We Are Better Together
We can all relate to the feeling of being hurt in a relationship, whether from feeling excluded, missed expectations, an unequal commitment, or outright betrayal. The painful aspects of relationships can close us off and make us reluctant to show up in our friendships the way God asks us to. But God’s Word is clear.
God’s Intended Design
We know from the very beginning of creation that God prioritized relationship. He made Adam for companionship with Him, and He created Eve to walk with Adam. Right from the start, God’s plan was for you to be part of a rich, healthy relationship with Him and with others.
Looking to Jesus as both our model for and source of love frees us up to be the friend we’d like to have. As you read through the scriptures for today, reflect on which ones give you encouragement where you need it most. Ask God to show you why encouragement is needed in this area.
About this Plan
