This Is HIS Year: A Biblical Guide to Grace and GoalsSample
We Exist for God’s Glory!
Why do you exist? What were you made for, and what makes you feel alive?
Consciously or not, we often place our worth in what we do. Whether it's having a productive day running errands, feeling particularly successful at work, or finding value in our roles as a spouse, parent, or child - when we thrive within these roles, we feel that our lives have meaning.
But what does the Bible say about our purpose in life?
God’s Word says that we were created for Christ (Romans 11:36). We were made for Jesus, and our entire lives are meant to bring Him glory (1 Corinthians 10:31).
The Westminster Shorter Confession affirms this by stating that our purpose is to “glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” We were made for God’s glory, created to give Him praise. Although our social roles and earthly achievements can be wonderful blessings, they do not bring us ultimate satisfaction. Christ does.
As we see through Paul’s story in today’s verses, our righteousness before God is not based on our family of origin or our resume. It is firmly rooted in Christ (Philippians 3:1–11). Our chief goal in life is to know God and to make Him known to the ends of the earth. In light of this, we can reorient our priorities to an eternal perspective because Christ is our ultimate treasure. He has secured our worth, and He is coming again.
One day, we will all stand before the Lord. Our material possessions will fade away. Our earthly achievements will be forgotten. God will declare us righteous, not because of anything we have done but because of faith in Christ alone.
In light of this, let us glorify God and worship Him with everything we are. Let us serve Him with our time, talents, and treasures, not because we are trying to make our lives significant through Earthly accomplishments, but because we are in awe of God’s amazing grace. Let us work hard for His glory, knowing He loves us and is with us.
The love of Christ changes and compels us. We exist for Him.
Reflect and Respond
- What is your main purpose in life?
- How can you glorify God and enjoy Him today?
