DAY 7: DEPENDENCE ON GOD

Read: John 15:5; Psalm 127:1; 2 Corinthians 12:9

Only God is perfectly faithful all the time. His unwavering faithfulness should make us inherently aware of our absolute need for His presence in our lives. According to Scripture, we can do absolutely nothing fruitful apart from God. Therefore, we must foster a dependence on God, beginning with humbling ourselves before Him.

Dependence on God extends beyond our circumstances. Oftentimes, we find ourselves humbled before God in moments when we desperately need a miracle. But how often do we find ourselves depending on Him in the daily moments of life, when our emotions are out of control, or our thoughts are invaded with everything besides God’s Word?

In a culture that glorifies self-reliance, we must be mindful that we are placing our confidence in Christ rather than self. When we acknowledge our weaknesses, we are replacing our pride with humility, and humility allows the Lord to work in and through us – for our good and for His glory.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your presence. I acknowledge before You today that there is absolutely nothing that I can do apart from You. Help me to continue to cultivate a heart of humility and to avoid the trap of self-reliance. Allow me to foster a daily dependence on You and to see Your strength in my weaknesses.
