Timeless: The Living and Enduring Word of God

DAY 4 OF 7

Just Like Him

When faced with intense difficulty, I first need to be less like me and more like Jesus. Anyone can respond in a sweet and loving way when all is well in his or her personal life. We must remember our specific calling is to act like Jesus when our world has just fallen apart. We are to demonstrate the character of Christ during dark, difficult days.

The second principle Peter directs us to when faced with formidable days reminds us to consider the words we speak. The Holy Spirit can evaluate the sincerity of our desire to be like Jesus by the words that come out of our mouths when we are in a storm of suffering.

When it becomes dishearteningly obvious that your circumstances are about to be torn apart by a tornado of gargantuan proportions, have you been known to fuss, whine, or complain? Or do you declare you will trust the Lord no matter what is going on?

The words “kept entrusting” from 1 Peter 1:21–25 can also be translated as “drawing very close.” If you long to be like Jesus, then you will do what Jesus did at the worst moment of His life. You will keep your mouth closed and stay in a close and trusting relationship with the Father. As you choose to trust Him, you are acknowledging that He is the One with true power in any situation confronting you.

Day Four Prayer:

Jesus, today I thank You that the trials in life give me the opportunity to be more like You. I pray You would help me close my mouth when I don’t like my life and that You would welcome me into the joy of Your presence in these awful moments. Thank You for loving me and taking care of me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
