The Purpose PuzzleSample
What’s the purpose of purpose? The ultimate end goal in working through the process of discovering and confirming your purpose or calling is less about what it is and much more about Who is guiding you in the process. In the end, you gain something significantly greater than a task or assignment to complete. You gain a closer relationship with a Creator God who loves you and longs for deeper fellowship with you than He had yesterday.
Here are a few easy strategies we can engage to help keep the main thing the main thing. As you work through the Purpose Puzzle, keep these on the forefront of your mind:
Look up and see where He is working. As we are taking steps, we need to have our heads up, looking for where He is up to something and ask, “How can I add value to what He’s already doing there?”
Look for alignment with scripture. Any pursuit of clarity about leveraging our lives for the glory of God needs to be anchored to His word. Time in the Bible is essential for having Him direct our steps.
Put yourself in the middle of the action. There’s nothing more clarifying about serving the Lord than submerging ourselves in the activities associated with where we feel God is directing our steps. It is a “boots on the ground” strategy where we embark, engage, ask, and listen in response to God’s promptings.
Think “steps,” not destination. Most people I know have “Destination Disease.” They are more concerned about where they are headed than the journey of getting there. We need to learn to just look for the next steps that will give us more clarity as we move forward. And as we move forward, be sure to celebrate the small wins along the way.
I want to repeat one key component about answering the question, “What’s my purpose?” The ultimate end goal is not finding your purpose but falling more in love with the Purpose Maker. He created us because He loves us and desires our love and affection in return. As you work through all of these, don’t lose sight of that objective.
