ADVENTure: The Loud, Noisy, Roaring, Life Changing, Not So Silent NightSample
Ruth is the great grandmother of King David. Yes from David and Goliath, that David. But that is not what she should be most famous for. She should be famous for being a friend who doesn’t give up. If I walked up to you right now and said, “Do you want a friend who is with you through it all or who bails on you when things get rough?” I think I know what you would pick. Ruth is that friend.
Ruth’s mother in law’s name is Naomi. A mother in law is the mother of your husband or wife. Naomi experienced tragedy because her husband sadly dies as well as her two sons. That leaves Ruth without a husband and Naomi’s other daughter in law, Orpah, without a husband. I know that sounds like a lot and the reason why it sounds like a lot because it is a lot. Naomi experiences the death of most of her family and now is in a deep sadness. In this sadness, as we read in the verses, she tells her daughter in laws to leave.
Orpah says peace out and leaves. But as you read Ruth stays. Ruth is a faithful friend that we all need in our lives. Sadness, heartbreak, and tragedy can be messy. We need friends who stay with us through it all. Sometimes on an adventure you just need someone you trust sitting in the passenger seat. We all need friends who will go on the adventure with us. Through all the ups and downs. We need friends like that and we need to be friends like that to others.
The Destination:
Have you ever been to a birthday party for someone who is nice to everyone? It’s a big party! Why? Because everyone loves celebrating good friends. Now imagine if the school bully threw a party. It would probbaly be a lot smaller because that’s not a good friend. The reason why Christmas is such a big deal is because it is the birthday party of the greatest friend ever, Jesus. The Bible says Jesus never changes. That He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Which is an amazing thing because Jesus is the greatest friend. He is a friend who will always be by your side and loves you more than any one else ever will.
