Eight Responses to Meeting JesusSample
People will find life in Jesus
“And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed’” (Luke 2:34)
Let's look once more at Simeon's words. Because not all people “fall” because of Jesus. Not everyone opposes Him. There will also be “many in Israel" who will rise up precisely because of Him. And a little earlier, Simeon has spoken of “salvation” and “light” for all nations. In doing so, he echoes the words of Zechariah one chapter earlier; words of hope and salvation for “those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death” (Luke 1:78-79).
The Lord Jesus Himself addresses this theme in John 11. He assures us, “Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.”
Finding life in Jesus actually requires two things: you must acknowledge that you do not possess this life yourself; and you must believe that Jesus is the Son of God who can save you from your hopeless condition. If you confess that you are sinful and need Jesus as your Savior, He is wholeheartedly willing to forgive you and offer you eternal life. Have you arrived at that point yet? Do you dare to trust that you are safe with the Lord Jesus?
About this Plan
When you meet Jesus, this changes your life. The Bible describes countless examples of this, and you may recognize it in your own life as well. This reading plan examines some of the encounters people had with Jesus when He was just a baby. Read these stories as a mirror to reflect on your own response to Jesus.
