Quit Daydreaming: How to Wake Up & Break Free (Part 3)

DAY 6 OF 7

Accepting Yourself

Most addicts and people who struggle with oppressive mindsets often struggle with a sense of worthlessness that forms the breeding ground for self-rejection.

The frustration this creates causes them to beat themselves up for past mistakes while refusing to be patient and compassionate when they make an effort to change.

When self-contempt is allowed to fester, a person is then forced to turn to drugs, alcohol, or other addictive behaviors to make themselves feel better about their lives.

This euphoric feeling is usually fleeting and is swiftly substituted with the nagging feeling of self-rejection that a person is trying to evade in the first place. This is why this area must be addressed if you want to break free from mental bondage and recover from addiction.

If you don’t, you risk growing vulnerable to persistent feelings of self-hate that will continue to drive your compulsions, urges, and self-destructive tendencies.

The remedy? Believe you are the person God has made you to be.

If you're someone who has battled with loneliness from constant rejection, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the problem is you.

I know when I struggled with maladaptive daydreaming because I could not physically run away from myself, I rejected every aspect of my being and tried to live out my idealized life in my head.

What I've come to realize is sometimes, the person we need to forgive the most is the one staring back at us in the mirror. The reason so many people struggle with loneliness is because, at some point in our lives, we’ve grown to reject ourselves.

Still, if we bask in the identity God gives us, we no longer conform to the need to find our worth in our perception or other people's opinions of us. This gives us the liberty to go through life assured and secure rather than ashamed.
