Why Think Positively?
It’s probably obvious that most people don’t want to constantly drown in despair. And if you read your Bible regularly, you’ve probably noticed encouragements in Scripture to be glad, rejoice, and have a cheerful heart.
But did you know a growing body of research suggests optimism is linked to physical health benefits too? Especially to ward off cardiovascular disease. Isn’t that amazing? God’s Word encourages us to have a cheerful heart for the sake of our spirits, but positivity is also good for our physical hearts.
Even more encouraging: though this research suggests some people are born more optimistic than others, it also shows optimism can be learned. So if we dedicate ourselves to cultivating a positive mindset, we can make real progress in this area. Isn’t that empowering?
Reflection:
If you were to rate your current level of optimism on a scale from 1–10, where would you be? Where do you hope to be? Write down this goal in a journal or notebook so you can focus on it as we journey together.
