God's Answer to an Identity CrisisSample
Mirror Mirror
Movie Soundbite: “Mirror Mirror, Who’s the Fairest of Them All?” – Harper
Watch Clip #4.
God Soundbite: At the beginning of the movie Harper waltzes into the dorm room dressed as the evil queen. She grabs the mirror that Madison has invented and asks, Who is the fairest of them all? When we ask that question of ourselves, a person we believe is fairer than us often comes quickly to mind. God invites us to see ourselves as the Imago Dei—the image of God. We are the crowning achievement of his created order. God saw all he had made, and it was very good. Genesis 1:31a. David writes, Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar. Psalm 138:6. There is a divine tension between being made very good, before the Fall and being lowly. There is no need to grab the mirror away from someone else to catch a glimpse. God looks at you and thinks you are the fairest of them all. There is no need to cajole a magical mirror. We just need to become low before God and ask him to reveal his love for us. What does it feel like to humble yourself before God? What is in the way of that humbling process?
Meditate on the way you talk to yourself. Do you talk to yourself the way God talks to you?
Prayer Soundbite: Dear Lord, I struggle with comparing myself to others. I constantly put myself down. Help me to remember that you are pleasing and that with you I can be kind to myself and others. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
Soundbite for the Day: I can be kind because the I AM is pleasing.
