What’s The Big Deal?
Today, in our reading we find the word “abomination.” This is a pretty strong word meaning “a disgusting thing.” What makes a false balance so disgusting to the Lord? A simple device used to weigh objects that would balance out to indicate a proper transaction. When we look at it in context, we find opposing words such as “pride” and “humbleness,” and “integrity” and “crookedness,” “righteousness” and “wickedness.” These are opposite ends of the scale. When we examine ourselves and compare or “weigh” ourselves with others, we may appear pretty good in our eyes. However, when we examine ourselves according to God’s Word, what do we find? When we “weigh” ourselves in light of God’s Truth we find a true picture of how God sees us.
Prayer: You are Righteous and Holy, Almighty God. May Your Word search me, convict me, and reveal who I really am. May Your love fill me, Your mercy forgive me, and faithfulness overwhelm me. Thank You for Your Truth. Amen.
