Better Is A Little
Comparing and contrasting is a reading skill that brings out meaning for greater understanding. Today’s passage makes a comparison telling us a little of life’s treasure and the fear of the Lord is different than great treasure with the trouble it brings. If we believe that the fear of God is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshipping Him in awe, then we experience a better life. Who doesn’t want a good life? On the other side of this proverb we find great treasure that brings trouble with it. Could it be the fear of losing it all that is trouble? Perhaps, the great treasure is what Solomon laboured for, sought after, and was troubled about. He realized that it was all vanity. Read Ecclesiastes 12:13 and find his conclusion to the comparison.
Prayer: Father, You own everything and I am a steward of your riches you have allowed me to receive. Help me to be faithful and thankful for the blessings You have provided. In Jesus' name, Amen.
