Healing Prayer Is God’s IdeaSample
Jesus would have us form teams to pray together, to enter into God’s idea of healing prayer. We join our willingness to obey His teaching with the power and compassion of God who equips us with His very own Presence to get this done!
Jesus’s mercy on the sick and afflicted people will continue until the close of time. Intercessors already know this in their devotions. When drawn into intercession, those who pray actually feel it with Him.
The intercessors pray and run out of words. They groan in wordless anguish, utterly unable to even know how to pray. Then, the Spirit of God Himself joins the praying of the intercessor. They both feel it—both groan together: God groans in birthing anguish, and the intercessor groans as God’s Spirit prays through them. They are praying together! This is so that God can cause “all things to work together for good” through the prayers of God by His Spirit, and the Christ-following intercessor praying together at the same time.
When we invite the Holy Spirit to shape our praying, God Himself ignites holy compassion within us. Sometimes God’s emotion intersects and redirects ours. This is clearly the point of Paul’s teaching in Romans 5 on how justification by faith feels.
When we first encounter this amazing grace called justification, we feel it. On the level of emotion alone, we receive:
- Peace with God
- Exultation in hope
- Anticipation of participation in glory
- And, most especially, the love of God—tangibly experienced.
That love is described as something that is “poured out” within our deepest heart by the Holy Spirit.
It is important to remember that Jesus, enthroned in heaven, didn’t stop His work once He rose from the grave. In fact, His greater ministry began as He took His seat in heaven at the place of ruling authority!
He began to rule on His throne!
He rules by praying!
Not only does Jesus live forevermore, but He also pours out His very Spirit, who carries His praying into us and joins us in that magnificent work, and He continues to intercede for us. He invites us now to join Him in His magnificent ministry of healing by surrendering our hearts and hands to Him—our hearts, to be shaped by and filled with His compassion, and our hands, to be available and ready to extend His flowing, healing mercy.
Is the Holy Spirit nudging you to grow in intercession? It most certainly isn’t your idea—it’s His. Healing prayer is God’s idea.
