Romans Part 6: RESPONSESample
The Victory is HIS!
In Romans 16, Paul really opens his heart to the Roman readers. In the few verses leading up to vs 20, Paul is warning them to watch out for those who cause division and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that's been taught and to avoid them. He urges them to be on guard for people serving their own appetites with smooth talk and flattery. He ends vs 19 by saying, “Be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.”
What does this mean?
It means that we have the wisdom of the truth of God. He equips us with the Word so that we will know when we are in the presence of things or people that we shouldn't be. He goes on to say we should be innocent of what is evil...we have to be careful what we open our hearts to...the conversations we engage in...the people we surround ourselves with. If we aren't sure of what that looks like, it is spelled out in Philippians 4:8: ”Finally, brothers, what is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about these things.”
The greatest security we have against lies is to be wise!
The last part of this caution is given in verse 20:
“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”
There is going to come a time when the God of peace will wage war on Satan and he will be no more...and then we will have eternal peace! Isn't that a comforting thought!?
He says that Satan will be "under your feet." We are going to reign, too! The victory is ours! 1 Corinthians 15:25 & 28 says :
25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
28 When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.
Let us walk in the confidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing the victory is HIS!
Until then, we are to give it all we've got, walking confidently, knowing that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world!
