A Path Through Pain

DAY 2 OF 14

Shared Scars, Unseen Wounds

Think

Imagine you are in a room full of people and can see each person's invisible scars—evidence of pain experienced. We might be surprised by what we see! No matter the external facade, every individual carries burdens, heartbreaks, and wounds, marking them as members of an unspoken club. The experiences vary, but the universal truth is evident: everyone undergoes pain at some point in their lives.

But what happens when these scars, these moments of trauma, go untreated? Like physical wounds, emotional and psychological wounds can fester. They can give rise to dysfunction, leading to patterns of behavior that cause further hurt, not just to oneself but to others around them. It's a domino effect where one unchecked hurt can lead to a cascade of issues, causing collateral damage.

The scriptures remind us that while pain might be universal, so is healing. God is a healer, a source of restoration. Yet a significant barrier to healing can often be our pride. By acknowledging our pain and seeking healing, we are not showing weakness, but strength—a strength that recognizes the need for a power greater than our own to mend our internal wounds.

Apply

Take a moment today to reflect on the hurts you've been holding on to. Are there areas of dysfunction in your life that might stem from untreated pain? Seek support through prayer, confiding in trusted individuals, or finding professional help. There's strength in seeking healing.

Pray

Lord, every one of us carries wounds and scars. Help me recognize the areas in my life that need healing and lead me to others who can support me as I find restoration and peace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
