DAY 4 OF 5

Spending time together

Is your community sports team spending enough time together?**

We are all busy. In our fast-paced world, we often crowd in many activities and relationships day after day. It can be a challenge to prioritise the important from the urgent. Where do relationships fit into all this?

When we are on the staff of any organisation, there are scheduled times together.

When you are part of the sport movement, and no one is employed, you are making a time decision because of a commitment to a bigger purpose. The most powerful impact in history was the movement Jesus birthed. The movement's impact was significant because Jesus spent time with a core of men and women.

The sport movement learned that the more the impact grows, the more you need to spend time together as an accountability team. There is the need to develop greater trust that only results from time together. Sometimes more time is required to serve more significant opportunities. Sometimes there is a need for conflict resolution.

The most important place for you and your team to spend time together is in your neighbourhood or community.

Your community is small enough that travel time isn't a problem. When developing sports plans, we have learned that each neighbourhood or community is made up of different age groups, including seniors, families, often different languages, and even different sports interests.

Scripture to ponder –

Colossians 3:13-14

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Key Lesson: Your community team needs to be willing to be accountable to one another. An impactful sports team benefits from having humble and talented persons with gifts of administration, vision, outreach, and discipling.

About this Plan

Partnership

Partnership is one approach that is often treated with extreme caution. In fact many steer clear of this approach due to the complexities of bringing more than one stake holder to the table. But, partnership is powerful, especially when all on board share a common vision, passion, and heart. More can be accomplished doing things together than going solo.
