You Are Created For...

DAY 6 OF 12

The nature of life is relationships. That's how God made us.

In the beginning, the Lord created the heavens and the earth, and it was good.

God created the birds and they are good. God created the fish and they are good. God created the light, and the darkness, and they are good.

Suddenly, God creates someone and there is something not good about it. Something is missing. There is something that is not good. And He says it is not good for the man to be alone. And it's interesting. The man has paradise. Everything you could want is there. Unity with God, the animals, the plants, the beauty, good food, power - authority, dominion, pleasure - he had it all. He had an incredible prayer life and relationship with God - it was just the two of them. But he was still unhappy. Lonely. He needed human relationships.

Now, in today's culture and society, this goes against what we have been taught and how we function. Each of us enters life as a baby who is completely dependent on others. We are nurtured, protected, guided, and sustained by others. Without this nurturing, we could only survive for a few hours or at most a few days.

Then gradually, over months and years, we become more and more independent - physically, intellectually, emotionally, and financially - until we can eventually take care of ourselves and become self-sufficient. The dream that this world sells us is a dream of independence - I want to do my own thing on my own time. I don't want to work for someone. I don't want to explain myself to someone. I don't want to depend on someone. And this is where many of us get stuck. Because this life is empty. For example, you can have everything in the world - be completely financially independent, but money can't buy love, acceptance, or relationships.

It's not good - it goes against how God made you. Adam had everything and it wasn't enough.

God's dream for us and the true paradise is interdependence - to be in relationship with others. We can't always give ourselves what we need and therefore God fulfills many of our needs by sending other people our way.
