The Beloved Pastor's WifeSample
Setting Your Priorities
So then, as a Pastor’s wife, what are my practical, daily priorities?
- I support my husband prayerfully, encouraging him, building him up, and submitting to him as unto the Lord, of course (1 Peter 3:1–6).
- As I am taking care of my home and many other responsibilities that come around, I also keep feeding on the word of God because it is a blessing. Luke 11:28 says, "Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it." Some of the ways you can feed on the word of God are when you are under teaching at church, having bible studies or attending one, or in small groups fellowship with the Body of Christ members. Also, having your own Bible study and spending quiet time with God through prayer, meditation, and worship.
- Giving. As we have freely received the word of God and it has become life to us, we can give it to others. For we cannot give what we don't have or haven't received. Now you are able to teach others (Titus 3:3), build up others (Romans 14:19), care for others (1 Corinthians 12:25), encourage others (1 Thessalonians 5:11), be hospitable to others (1 Peter 4:9), and love others (Romans 13:8).
- I lead my home by following Christ’s example, with God’s guidance, rather than getting tangled in all the “Do’s and Don’ts” that others set for me. The Lord gives me peace deep down in my heart when I am walking in step with Him (Colossians 3:12-17).
To the Pastor’s wife: As a Pastor’s wife, be mindful that your call is a blessing from God, prepared just for you. Rest in it and enjoy the leading of the Spirit. Beware of falling into the habit of complaining, trying to perform according to others’ expectations, or allowing the pressures of the world to alter your path. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. If you choose to reverence God, you will enjoy the calling, the privilege, and your role (Philippians 2:13–16; Proverbs 1:7).
About this Plan
A Pastor’s wife is called to support and encourage her husband, prioritizing her relationships with God, family, and others to keep the family healthy; being careful not to allow the busyness of daily culture to confuse her in the role God has entrusted her with. Expectations and needs of family and church may pull her in different directions, but one thing is always consistent, God’s love for her endures forever.
