God created you in His image for this specific time in history. The outcome of two people’s genealogy, geography, and history became you.

Of the estimated 117 billion humans who have ever lived on earth, why do you live now?

It’s a big question, but it’s one that matters. Moses, one of the most influential leaders in the Old Testament, knew this. His prayer recorded in Psalm 90:12 NIV challenges us:

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Our days our fleeting. But that knowledge isn’t something to scare us. It’s something to motivate us. When we recognize our limits, we can focus on our legacy. We can grow a heart of wisdom—wisdom to discern which opportunities to invest our valuable but limited time.

The average human life includes 41,522,400 minutes. Why are you here for this one? What history, what science, what technology, what part of God’s plan are you living in? What role do you play in the expansive story God is writing?

The God who paints the flowers, feeds the birds, and numbered the hairs on your head made you on purpose! From the beginning, God’s plan has always been to partner with humans to care for His creation. He invites us to rule over the earth, bringing order, love, and goodness to the world around us.

What can you do with the time and talents God has given you? What good works has He prepared for you?

Like the little boy whose lunch fed 5,000 people, when you offer what you have—whether it’s a little or a lot—God multiplies it for the miraculous. What miracle could be on the other side of your obedience?

Spend some time reflecting on why God created you for this specific time in history.

• What impact do your words have on those who hear them? How might you bring encouragement to the people God puts in your path?
• What life lessons have you learned that could set others up for success? How might you share them with the next generation?
• What feeling does your presence bring into a room? What exists in your neighborhood, city, or church because you are there? How might you be a person who brings light and love wherever you go?

Your life matters. This is not just another minute; this is a moment.

Pray: God, thank You for choosing to make, save, and love me. Help me see why I was made for this moment. What are some of the ways I can make a difference? Thank You that Your Spirit is at work within me. Help me rely on Your power instead of my own effort. Thank You for partnering with humans like me to bring about Your good plan. Show me what part You want me to play, and thank You for all the ways You’ve brought all things together for good in my story. In Jesus’ name, amen.
