The First Letter of JohnSample
We Love Because He First Loved Us
Our capacity to love others comes from God's capacity to love us and to love through us. So, as He works in us and through us, it is impossible to stay loveless and hateful. Something must shift in the process of following God. We either follow Him deeper and deeper into love, or we wander around in circles and our discipleship is stunted.
It is normal to feel resistance to love the people who hurt us, or who have betrayed us. But God is calling us beyond that today. Beyond the edge of our hurt. Beyond our capacity to love. So, let His capacity to love flow over your hard edges.
Devotional Question:
Who is the person who hurt you the most in your life? We will pray a prayer of blessing over them today. “Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless [name] today, and let them experience the healing love that You have for them. I pray that You will bring restoration in their life and that they will be a blessing to every person they know. Amen.”
About this Plan
1 John is one of the most quoted books of the Bible, and for a good reason: John understood God’s love in a special way. As we explore the pages of this book, let that be our main goal: to understand the love of God better and better, and to grow closer to Him.
