Performance Thinking Versus Trust
Around 11pm the night before a gig, I was copied into the promoter and sound engineer's email and read the lines, "I don't know, Déborah hasn't gotten back to me yet!"
Oh no! I usually tour with my own sound engineer so I had completely forgotten to get back to them! I'm usually the over-organized type. Because of that, and because I knew this could cause a lot of stress, it was really bugging me.
When I woke up early in the morning, I immediately grabbed the phone. Had they called in yet? Negative thoughts flashed through my head: Everyone’s stressed out now because of you. They’ll think you’re unprofessional. When you get there, everyone will be mad at you…
I had made a mistake. I had to tell myself that it happens. In moments like that, do you also manage to let go and say, "It happens"?
I had to pull back at first. In fact, I opened my devotional and there I read:
"Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever." (Psalm 28:9 NIV) Your heavenly Father is pleased when you trust Him, even, or especially, when you don’t see the blessings. Trust God that He will bring you through again.
It takes three deliberate and important steps at such times:
— Forgive yourself.
— Trust God.
— Find joy again.
Maybe you didn't expect your mistakes, but God did! Now just pay attention, because even though you may have messed up, God can carry you through it too!
Will you trust Him today?
You are a miracle!
Déborah
P.S. It was a phenomenal performance. Nobody, absolutely nobody was angry with me, everything went smoothly, and many people gave their lives to Jesus!
