A Husband's Role in MarriageSample
Be a Follower
It’s far too easy for me to take a wrong turn. Sometimes, it’s hard for me to understand how anyone ever got anywhere before the invention of GPS. And if I have people in the car with me, the pressure is even greater. Even if I know where I’m going, seeing the little map on the dashboard is a comfort. At the very least, it will warn me of traffic ahead.
As much as I love the GPS, every now and then, we hear stories of people who mindlessly followed the instructions they gave and drove into ditches, down staircases, into lakes, and even off cliffs. It’s easy to scoff at stories of people who follow instructions to places they clearly should not go, but we’re all followers of something or someone. And what we follow isn’t always good for us either.
Maybe we followed the advice of a friend and signed up for a class that was supposed to be an easy A, only to wind up struggling just to pass. Maybe we followed the investment advice of an “expert” and wound up losing money we couldn’t afford. Or maybe we “followed our hearts,” only to realize that our hearts are selfish, and we made a huge mess of things.
Whatever the case, by the time we realize we’re following the wrong leader, it’s often too late.
Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
Before a man can properly embrace his role as a husband, he must learn to tune out the other voices and embrace the role of follower—a follower of Christ. No matter what unexpected twists and turns the road ahead might bring, we know Jesus’ directions will never lead us astray.
Whose voice do you listen to most?
If it's not Jesus, and you'd like to become His follower today, watch the video below and pray this prayer with us.
About this Plan
