Depth, Diversity, and Divine Promise of the Great Commission

DAY 3 OF 7

The Great Commission is a central theme of God's heart for all the nations from Genesis to Revelation. Yet, Jesus gives specific significance by allowing the gospel writers to record five instances of the Great Commission.

Today, we will look at the second of these five passages chronologically and pull out the emphasis.

The second passage chronologically is Mark 16:15

Could you look at the context?

  • Where did Jesus speak this passage?
    • Jerusalem
  • When was it spoken?
    • Eight days after the resurrection
      • We know that Jesus appeared to Thomas 8 days after the resurrection (John 20:26)
  • Who originally heard it?
    • The 11 Disciples (Mark 16:14)
  • What was the mandate?
    • All the world, to the whole creation.
  • What was the emphasis?
    • The Magnitude

Do you have a big end vision for every person and every place? Jesus continues the narrative of the Old Testament that the knowledge of God’s glory is to cover the earth as the water covers the sea. He indicates that it is to go into all the world and all creation. Stopping short of that goal is settling for less than a biblical vision of the Great Commission.

Do you pray for people that don't have access to the gospel? Several resources help you learn about the world's unreached people groups. Does your heart align with God's heart to see all the world, the whole of creation, to hear the gospel?

Pause and pray for God to give you the capacity to think and pray beyond your current paradigm. God is moving among the unreached.
