Jesus Shouldn't Be There
Quite possibly the most incredible doctrine in the Bible is union with Christ. The infinite God of the universe chooses to live inside weak, fragile, earthen vessels like us!
How does this apply to purity? In our motivation. Many of our motivations to stop us from sinning are man-centered. We know that the way of the sinner is hard, and we do not want the ramifications that come to those who rebel against God. However, our greatest motivation should not be about us, but about God.
To put it bluntly, if Christ lives in you, then when you watch filth on the Internet or fornicate or listen to crude music, you take Jesus with you. The holy Son of God who has never sinned is brought into the center of wickedness every time you choose sin over holiness. It’s no wonder you feel like you’ve been torn in two after yielding to sexual sin—the source of purity is being carried into total impurity. I find this hard to write, and I’m sure you find it hard to read—but let this shake us up.
The next time you want to watch pornography, remember that Jesus will be watching it with you. Picture Him standing next to you, crying, “I died for you, to set you free from the snares of sin; turn it off for Me.” The next time you’re tempted to sleep with a girlfriend or boyfriend, picture Christ in the room, hurting as He sees your disobedience. May God have mercy on us, so that we would not be so self-centered, because Jesus Christ deserves better than the places we take Him when we sin.
