Romans - Part 5: ELECTION

DAY 34 OF 35

A Lesson in Humility: Romans 11:34-35

Sometimes, as we go to church, read and study our bibles, and listen to good teaching, we start feeling pretty good about ourselves with regard to how much we know about God. We can even get to the point where we think we have all the right answers about God and His plan. We can begin to live and speak with some pride in thinking that we know God’s next move in the world, in the lives of people around us, and even what God ought to be doing for us!

But, the Bible makes it clear that if we think we have God all figured out, we are sadly mistaken. The Apostle Paul writes these words in 1 Corinthians 13:12:

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”

Did you get that? Paul admits that there is still mystery for him regarding God. He knows in part and will only understand it all when he comes face to face with God.

Or, how about Paul’s words to the Ephesian believers regarding God?

Ephesians 3:20 says: "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,”

Paul says that we can’t even ask or think (imagine–NIV) what God is capable of or what He has planned to do. It is beyond us!

Now, don’t get this wrong. There are many truths in the Bible that are crystal clear about God and His plan for all mankind. But, the Bible makes it clear that if we think we have God, our creator, and Savior, all figured out, we are sadly mistaken.

So, study your Bible. Learn all you can about a great God who loves you. But, do it humbly, knowing, that at least in this life, you will never know all there is about God and His plan.
