Diaspora: People on the Move, God at WorkSample
Lesson 11 - The People of God as Sojourners
Christians are called to live in this world while recognizing that our true home is in heaven. The Bible reminds us that we are sojourners, temporary residents on earth, and our ultimate destination is the eternal home prepared for us. In this Bible study, we will explore passages highlighting our identity as sojourners and our hope in our heavenly home.
1 Peter 2:11-12 - Strangers and Aliens:
In this passage, Peter addresses believers as "sojourners and exiles." Reflect on what it means to be a stranger or alien in this world. How does this perspective impact our priorities, values, and interactions with the world around us?
Hebrews 11:13-16 - Longing for a Better Country:
The heroes of faith mentioned in Hebrews saw themselves as "strangers and exiles on the earth." They desired a better country, a heavenly one. Reflect on the faith-driven yearning for a heavenly home. How can we cultivate a similar perspective and longing in our lives?
Philippians 3:20-21 - Citizens of Heaven:
Paul reminds the Philippians that their citizenship is in heaven. Explore the concept of dual citizenship: earthly and heavenly. How does understanding our heavenly citizenship impact the way we approach challenges and opportunities in our daily lives?
Colossians 3:1-4 - Set Your Minds on Things Above:
Paul encourages believers to set their minds on things above, where Christ is seated. Think about practical ways to keep our focus on heavenly realities while fulfilling our responsibilities on earth. How can this mindset transform our attitudes and actions?
Revelation 21:1-4 - The Promise of a New Heaven and Earth:
Revelation paints a beautiful picture of the new heaven and earth, where God dwells with His people, wiping away tears and bringing ultimate restoration. How does the hope of this future reality impact how we navigate challenges, disappointments, and suffering in the present?
2 Corinthians 5:1-10 - Eager to Be Home with the Lord:
Paul describes our earthly bodies as tents and desires to be "absent from the body and present with the Lord." How can we balance our eagerness for heaven with our call to live purposefully on earth? How does this perspective influence our choices and actions?
As sojourners on Earth, we are called to live with an eternal perspective. Our heavenly home is the anchor of our hope, shaping how we live, love, and engage with the world around us. Let us embrace our identity as citizens of heaven, longing for the day when we will be united with our Savior in our eternal home. May this perspective guide us to pray, give, and go among the unreached so they, too, can experience the glorious future that awaits us in Christ.
Buddhists and Hindus represent the world religions the furthest away from the orthodox Christian faith. You can begin to impact these people through education and prayer. Pray for Tibetan Buddhists in North America.
About this Plan
Today, more people are on the move in the global diaspora than ever before. What is God doing in our world today? To better understand, we will look at the word of God through the lens of people on the move and be introduced to unreached people groups in the diaspora and pray for them.
