Financial Discipleship - the Bible on Eternal FocusSample
The world says that great gain means accumulation: more money, more power, more stuff, and more status. But 1 Timothy 6:6 says great gain is godliness with contentment. Because, as the next verse states, where we’re going… nothing of this world can come with us.
Although we know this to be true, plenty of others still need their eyes to be opened through loving guidance.
The Lord blesses us with wisdom so we may acquire true riches and help others, as well. That is why He sent His Son to teach us how we should live. We needed to be taught the right way so we could have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10) and teach others by how we live.
One of the greatest benefits of teaching others is developing a better understanding and retaining what you have learned. And it is no different when it comes to teaching others what the Bible says about money so that they may come to know Christ more intimately, be free to serve Him, and help fund the Great Commission.
As financial disciples charged with faithfully applying God’s financial principles and teaching others to do the same, we must guard our eyes and ears from what the world says matters.
It is very difficult to teach someone if they have no example to learn from. The distractions of this world are a tool the enemy uses to steal, kill, and destroy. Meaningful teaching comes with demonstration. For the student to learn, they have to see the teacher put it into practice. And the more the teacher demonstrates it, the quicker it becomes second nature.
Jesus does not want us to live a life where we would feel like we have lost steam. Keep living faithfully by all of His principles. The true riches will be given to you (Luke 16:11). The joys of this world don’t last forever, and it is our Father’s desire for us to set our eyes not on the physical things we see but on the things we don’t see, which do last through eternity (2 Corinthians 4:18).
His plans for us are to give us hope and a future. And He knows that money and possessions give many of us false hope and false illusions of what is in store for us ahead. But no amount of power, no amount of status, no amount of connections, no amount of money can buy our way into God’s glory. Jesus is the only way to God’s glory. We are His disciples, not the world’s. We make Him our Master, not money.
As we declare God’s ownership, surrender all to His will, choose His way over ours, and strive to multiply, let us live with an eternal focus. Keep your eyes on Christ because He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
