DOVE
In Luke 3:22, we see Jesus baptized by John. “As He was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” This moment marked the life of Jesus as He was full of the Spirit, which led Him into fasting and ministry. There was a tangible manifestation of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus as in the form of a dove.
John 14:16-18 says, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will be with you forever, for He lives with you and will be in you. It is significant that after Jesus tells the disciples about the promised Holy Spirit, He encourages them by saying they will not be orphans. When you accept Jesus as Lord, you came into His Kingdom as a son or daughter. Just as Jesus was baptized, and the Holy Spirit descended as a dove, God the Father proclaimed, “THIS IS MY SON, WHO I LOVE, WITH YOU I AM WELL PLEASED!” This is what we have access to as sons and daughters of God. The Holy Spirit descends on us, as a promise to be with us forever. You will not be an orphan, He comes to you.
If the Holy Spirit descended on you as a physical dove today, how would you act to make sure that dove didn’t fly away? You would consider every action with that dove in mind. He is the Promised One who is with us, but Scripture also instructs us to not grieve Him. Ephesians 4:30 says, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Live in such a way to please the Holy Spirit as He lives in you and is within you!
Pray: Holy Spirit, I welcome Your Presence. Thank You for leading me, guiding me, and reminding me all that Jesus has said. Holy Spirit, teach me to abide in You. I pray You find a resting place within me to remain! Help me to become aware of what You are doing and saying throughout the day. Amen.
