Revelation

DAY 44 OF 56

As we begin to get a glimpse of the final battle we see imagery of a rider on a white horse. As the scripture goes on it is being revealed by the details that this “rider” is actually Jesus, and that the description of his entrance into battle is different. The demeanor is one, not one of present vengeance, but one of present victory. In the text it is mentioned that He is covered in blood and that he has a flaming sword not in his hand, but coming from his mouth. This imagery is strange, I mean why would Jesus be covered in blood if the battle hadn’t even started yet, and the only weapon Jesus carries is a sword coming from his mouth rather than in his hands? When reading Revelation it is important to understand that the use of imagery and symbols is strong, and this passage is referencing something else here.

In Isaiah 11:4 and 49:2, we can see that the word of God is referred to as a sword, and that the blood that Jesus is covered in is actually his own.

What does this tell us? That contradictory to widespread belief, Armageddon isn’t a battle of violence but of Jesus coming to hold everyone accountable to the word.

About this Plan

Revelation

The apocalypse ("uncovering" in Greek) that John receives reveals the nature of the world as it is and will one day be. Amidst all of the cosmic imagery is a Lamb and its army who conquer through the power of sacrificial love. This 8-week plan is written by the church and for the church as we seek to follow Jesus in the 21st century.
