Meditate in 360Sample
Sea of Galilee
Today, we are going to meditate on following Jesus.
In front of you is a lake called the Galilee.
Imagine that you can hear the voices of fishermen around you.
Gathering their nets.
Talking about today’s catch.
You might hear the gentle lapping of the water against their boats.
As the breeze comes down from the hills, you turn and look.
Imagine a man walking down to the water and bending near the edge.
He talks to the fishermen mending their nets.
He is a teacher, a Rabbi.
He says to them, “Come, Follow Me.”
Imagine their faces.
To follow him would mean to lay down their nets.
It would mean giving up their livelihood.
It would mean forsaking their boats– their father’s inheritance
Yet, they stand up. Look deeply into the eyes of the man who is speaking to them.
They recognize him.
They want to follow him.
And each one looks down at his hands. There is a net. To follow the teacher would mean dropping the net and taking one step.
And one by one, their fingers loosen, and the net falls. They step toward the teacher.
This is the way Jesus calls everyone.
The question is…what are you holding? What keeps you from taking the next step?
Is there something today that you need to let go of so that you can follow him?
Reflect on this.
What did the Spirit bring to your mind? Look down at your hand, imagine it is a net, and let it go.
