Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 9Sample
In 1 Corinthians chapter 5, Paul continues his confrontational tone whereby he addresses the fact that the Church did not address the sexual sin in their midst. In verses 7 and 8, Paul reminds the believers that they have already been saved by the Blood of Christ, now they must celebrate their salvation by removing malice and evil from their lives and replacing it with truth and sincerity.
Paul continues in the rest of the chapter, talking about how our lifestyle needs to reflect the change we have now come to be a part of. Someone who is in a relationship with Christ has a totally different reference. Instead of living from the fruit of the flesh, the fruit of the spirit becomes the reference for our lifestyle choices. Our choices reflect the foundation we are living from. And we realise there can only be one true, unchanging sure foundation.
A big part of this is being accountable to each other. In a sense, I am my brother’s keeper – holding each other accountable for the words we speak and the lifestyle we portray to those around us. In closing, we need to ask ourselves: How can we effectively help those around us and hold them accountable in love for their actions and lifestyle?
