One Day Nearer: 10 Devotions in Anticipation of Jesus’ Glorious Return

DAY 9 OF 10

Day 9: Faithful and True

If there is any one title that Jesus has proven Himself worthy of, it is Faithful and True. Clearly, He has proven Himself worthy of every title and name ascribed to Him in Scripture. But in terms of what He has done and continues to do on our behalf, this title should be especially dear to us.

He is Faithful. Jesus is entirely trustworthy. He does what He says He will do; He fulfills His every role and promise. While on earth, He was faithful to do the Father’s will, which included going to the cross, as dreadful as that was. He was faithful to His disciples even when they weren’t faithful to Him. For us, He is a faithful shepherd who cares for every one of His sheep. He says, “I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). He is our constant intercessor, and He assures that our salvation is eternally secure. He will keep His promise to come and take us to Himself, that where He is, we will be also (John 14:3). We can trust that He will keep every promise about our eternal destiny and heavenly inheritance.

There is no one who is more faithful.

He is True. The meaning of “True” here is rich. Jesus is inherently true. He is the truth, and everything He speaks is true. He came into the world “to bear witness to the truth” (John 18:37)—to proclaim what is true about God, man, sin, salvation, and more. Christ is true in the sense that He is the standard of truth, and He is reliable.

There is no one who is more true.

In the times when you find yourself in need of guidance or help, turn to the one whose name is Faithful and True. He who is trustworthy and truthful has promised to walk alongside and care for you. You will find no better hands in which to be upheld and stay secure.
