Anxiety Is Real: So Is God

DAY 3 OF 5

Casting Your Anxieties on God

I’ve been fishing a few times in my life but have yet to actually catch a fish. I just cast the line and wait, hoping that something, anything, will grab hold. Sometimes praying can feel like fishing. We throw out our line into the deep and wonder, “Is anyone out there?”

But praying is not like fishing. God won’t leave our fishing line empty. Psalm 55:22 says, He will sustain us when we cast our cares on Him. Why? “Because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7) But there’s a key there that’s easy to miss. What’s the first thing 1 Peter 5:6 says? “Humble yourselves.”

Anxiety, depression, worry, or any mental health struggle can feel difficult to share with God. I’ve often felt inadequate like I’ve let Him down or disappointed Him. Or worse, like He won’t love me when I am broken. These feelings have often caused me to hide from God and others.

Humility is required to share the deepest parts of ourselves. It doesn’t mean anxiety instantly disappears, but it is a way of acknowledging our need for God and inviting Him into our anxiety. Trust me when I say that is EXACTLY where He wants to be.

Has God revealed any anxieties He wants you to cast on Him? Knowing He hears you and cares for you, spend a few minutes writing down your anxieties. Humbly admit you can’t do anything about them, but trust that God can.

About this Plan

Anxiety Is Real: So Is God

Are you feeling anxious? It's okay, me too. Anxiety can sometimes feel like a made-up problem. But between life changes, traumatic events, or just the daily struggles we face in this world, there are many reasons we can feel anxious. In our 5-day devotional plan, you'll learn that your anxiety is real, but so is God, and He cares.
