Journey to JoySample
Day 1: The Call to Adventure
"You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." Psalm 16:11
As a former US Navy Aviation Rescue Swimmer and Mount Everest climber, I've learned that the hardest part of any journey is often the beginning. Whether it's jumping out of a hovering helicopter into the raging open ocean or taking that first strenuous step toward the world's highest peak, every major achievement begins with a decision to embark on the adventure. Our spiritual journey calls us to step out of our comfort zones and embrace the path of growth that God has set before us.
The call to adventure is our spiritual invitation to experience life to its fullest, to explore the vast landscapes of faith, and to discover the unlimited depths of God's love. Climbing Mount Everest, guided by an unwavering determination, mirrors the way God calls us to climb the unique peaks of our own potential. The summit represents the fulfillment of a dream. Reaching the top of the world was exhilarating as my mind struggled to process all I had accomplished. So too can we experience the joy of walking in alignment with God's purpose through our spiritual growth.
The most profound moments of transformation occur when we step beyond the familiar, embracing challenges and uncertainties of the unknown. The initial step often feels overwhelming, but it is the catalyst for a journey that molds us into who we are meant to be. The call to adventure resonates in every heart, urging us to trust that God's hand is guiding us, even when the path ahead is obscured.
Today, as you contemplate the call to adventure, reflect on the promises of Psalm 16:11. As you take that step of faith, remember that God not only reveals the path of life but also promises to fill you with joy in His presence. The adventure may be daunting, but the joy that awaits is immeasurable. Embrace the beginning, for the hardest part is getting there, but you’re always glad you did.
