Being Whole: 21 Days to Overcoming Relational Trauma

DAY 16 OF 21

SAFETY:

After experiencing trauma, individuals may not feel safe due to the impact it has on their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. Trauma disrupts an individual's sense of safety and security, often leaving them with a heightened state of vigilance and a heightened sense of vulnerability. The brain and body may continue to respond as if the trauma is still ongoing, leading to symptoms such as hypervigilance, anxiety, nightmares, and flashbacks. The trauma may also shatter an individual's belief system and sense of trust in themselves, others, and the world around them. The emotional and psychological scars of trauma can linger, causing ongoing distress and making it difficult for individuals to feel safe in their own bodies, relationships, and environments.

Regaining a sense of safety after experiencing trauma can be a difficult and ongoing process. Trauma can shatter an individual's sense of security, leaving them feeling vulnerable and on edge. To begin the process of regaining a sense of safety, it can be helpful to seek out support from trusted friends, family members, or mental health professionals. Establishing a routine and engaging in self-care activities can also be beneficial, as it can provide a sense of predictability and control in one's daily life. More than anything developing a strong relationship with God and His Word will bring you to a place of stability that only happens when engaging with His truth about you. With compassion, time, patience, and support, it is possible to regain a sense of safety and move towards a more positive future.

Questions to Ponder:

Regaining safety will require courage. Are you willing to be courageous and build new or seek to maintain healthy relationships? Make that phone call, forgive that neighbor, move forward in life with no baggage. Feeling unsafe is unnecessary baggage.

About this Plan

Being Whole: 21 Days to Overcoming Relational Trauma

Trauma of any kind impedes our ability to experience the wholeness found in Christ. Relational trauma, trauma resulting from an abusive or dysfunctional relationship, often fractures our perception of God, self, and others. As a licensed Christian therapist specializing in trauma, I have witnessed true healing from trauma. In this devotional you will explore, heal, and grow beyond the areas of your heart that have been fragmented by relational trauma.
