The Creation Story Assumption

You know the creation story, and just read it again, right? But most Christians do not know – in fact, 99% of the Christians that I have surveyed around the globe over the last decade got this wrong – even though the answer is clearly given in Genesis 1:

"And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day." [This is the end of Day 5] – Genesis 1:23

"And God said, 'Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.'" [This is the start of Day 6] – Genesis 1:24

The Bible so clearly says that the animals – the cats, dogs, lions, zebras, and horses – were created on the sixth day, together on the same day as us humans.

If you’re like most people, you may be shaking your head in disbelief. How can this be? How can I not know something so basic as this fact from the creation story?

When I first discovered this, I was stunned. So, I read and re-read Genesis 1 over and over again, thinking that this cannot be! How could I – a Bible-reading Christian who has attended church all my life – how could I get this so wrong?

Even worse, if I was so sure of my belief that cats & dogs were created on Day 5, what else am I misunderstanding from the Bible?

My point is this: it is so easy to assume that we already know what the Bible says, that we overlook the message, or simply don’t hear what God is trying to tell us in His Word.

In the rest of this 5-day challenge, we will look at 4 other verses, to spot what God is really saying so that we can be sure to apply His truth to our lives, and not just what we think is true.
