Less Clutter Is More Life: A Biblical Approach to MinimalismSample
If we agree to define Minimalism as "the intentional promotion of the things we most value and the removal of anything that distracts us from it," then this has significant implications for our personal lives and finances.
Living intentionally means promoting what we value and removing distractions, as Hebrews 12:1 reminds us.
And the purpose of this isn't about punishing ourselves by spending less but rather being able to direct our financial energy on the things most important to us.
I remember early in my marriage, being such a mess financially and having so much credit card debt that I never had any extra money.
Meanwhile, I had a heart and passion to be generous. But all I could give was a few bucks here or there because of all the debt and financial clutter in my life.
But once I realized that if I paid off the credit cards, I'd instantly be able to free up hundreds of dollars each month.
I then was able to simply transfer the hundreds I had been paying to Mastercard (who I didn't care about) to causes I deeply cared about without cutting into my spending at all.
And this was a game changer.
So my question to you today is, what would be possible if you didn't have any financial clutter in your life?
Take a few moments to pray and ask God to show you what your financial life could look like if you removed all the clutter.
Let's pray:
Lord, today I pray for wisdom and discernment in my finances. Help me to begin removing the financial clutter that might distract me from what truly matters. I desire to be generous, to give freely to causes that align with Your will, and to be a good steward of what You've entrusted to me. Show me the way to financial freedom, that I may use what I have for Your glory. Let my finances be tools for serving You and not chains that bind me. Guide me, Lord, in the way everlasting.
In Jesus' name, I pray.
