Walking on Water: Trusting God Amidst Life's Storms

DAY 3 OF 3

When we lose our grip on God's Word is when we begin to sink.

Peter's ability to walk on water was directly linked to where he placed his focus. As long as he fixed his eyes on Jesus, he experienced supernatural empowerment, stepping confidently on the waves. However, the moment he allowed the storm's ferocity and his own fears to capture his attention, he lost sight of Jesus, leading to doubt and sinking.

The surrounding challenges, represented by the fierce winds and raging waves, served as distractions for Peter. When we face overwhelming situations in life, it is easy to become fixated on the problems rather than seeking the solution in Christ. Focusing solely on the difficulties can lead to a sense of hopelessness and fear, diverting our attention away from God's unwavering strength and provision.

Peter's sinking was not caused by any inadequacy on Jesus' part but by doubt creeping into his heart. Doubt erodes our faith and prevents us from fully trusting in God's power. When we allow doubt to overshadow our belief in God's promises and abilities, we can lose sight of the miraculous and slip into a state of spiritual decline.

Faith keeps us afloat in life's storms. Like Peter, we may experience doubt, but our faith should always remain grounded in the character and the Word of God. It is during challenging times that we need to hold onto Jesus even tighter, knowing that He is our Rock and Deliverer.

Reflection Question:

Peter started sinking when he shifted his focus from Jesus to the surrounding challenges. Similarly, we can lose our way when we allow fear, doubt, or distractions to divert our attention from God's Word and promises. Reflect on any situations in your life where you might have lost sight of God's Word and experienced the sinking feeling of doubt or fear. How can you strengthen your grip on God's promises and truth to avoid being swayed by circumstances and remain steadfast in faith?

Prayer:

Lord, anchor my heart in Your truth so that when doubt and fear try to sway me, I will remain steadfast, trusting in Your sovereignty and resting in Your peace. I commit to seeking You above all else, fixing my gaze on Your Word, and following You with unwavering faith. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
