Growing Our Church Family Part 4

DAY 1 OF 5

DOERS, NOT JUST HEARERS

Discipleship calls us beyond hearing God’s word to actually doing it. A “doer” of God’s word is always making connections and adjustments in his or her life to make sure it lines up with the word of God.

It can be easy to call it “good enough” by doing a regular Bible reading, or going to church for an hour every Sunday. The reality of our call as followers of Jesus is that it’s meant to be more than that. We’re called to take what we read and what we learn and put it into action in how we live our daily lives. One of the best ways for us to do this is alongside other followers of Jesus. God gave us the gift of community – living, serving, worshipping, praying, suffering alongside each other – to help us be doers. We grow and thrive in our walk with Jesus when we walk alongside other believers. True spiritual growth requires community.

Ask Yourself:

-Am I more naturally a “hearer” or a “doer”?

-What keeps me from being more of a “doer”?

-Am I living in community with other believers?

Pause to Pray for the Church: Father God, help us to heed your words and be a body of believers who don’t just hear what you say but also do what you say. Help us to find others to live, serve, and worship alongside so that we can grow your church… Amen

Take a Next Step into Christian Community: Over the next few days, consider what your next step might be to live more fully in community with other believers. Maybe it’s attending church more consistently and filling out the “I’m new” card (or whatever your local church calls it). Perhaps it’s signing up to attend a small group. It could be asking someone to mentor you or finding someone you can mentor.

About this Plan

Growing Our Church Family Part 4

When Jesus called his disciples to follow Him, they made a commitment to discipleship in the context of community. And from that point forward, the Church has been built on this same idea. But how can broken and sinful people who disagree about so many things work together for God’s Kingdom? Join us as we explore what it means to be the church: devoted, connected, and discipled brothers and sisters.
