Mentoring Lessons- Creativity

DAY 5 OF 5

Encourage Bottom-Up Creativity

Do you struggle with new ways to be creative and keep what you do fresh?

As the games and sport strategy for kids expanded worldwide, more volunteers developed fresh and vibrant creativity. Many of us were stunned by how much innovation happened through collaboration and adaptation.

Different places and contexts offered new ideas as they adapted the strategy to their own context. New ideas came from everywhere! Bible curricula was written across every continent.

Creative electives came from one country. A water relay competition came from another. Carved wooden awards came from another and children learning how to plant crops came from another region.

Creativity is vital and motivating. It's about innovating and finding creative solutions as much as it's about creative expression. It's about finding better and more appropriate ways of connecting children with Jesus.

Soon other locations came up with games and sport for teens, young adults and then families. Creativity kept everything fresh and moving forward.

Presumably, when Jesus said, "Go and make disciples in all nations," he knew what creativity, innovation, and courage would be required. After all, the whole world was created through Jesus, and Jesus Himself modeled amazing creativity in His ministry.

Scripture to ponder –John 21:25

Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

Key Lesson: The best way to learn what creativity works is to collaborate as you look for solutions to roadblocks. Don't be afraid to take risks and even fail.
