Main Points:
1. Jesus commanded His followers to fulfill God’s promise to Abraham by bringing His blessing to all the families of the earth.
2. Climax: The Holy Spirit now dwells IN believers!! (Acts 2:1-4)
- Believers are the new Temple of God and the place of His presence (Ephesians 2:19-22)
- The Spirit is the downpayment and guarantee that we will receive the fullness of our inheritance when Jesus returns (Ephesians 1:13-14)
3. The Holy Spirit:
- Equips us to be who He has called us to be: His children
- Gifts us to do what He has called us to do: live holy lives and build His Kingdom on earth
4. Our responsibility is to grow:
- In the knowledge of God and Truth
- In conduct to lead lives worthy of Christ’s sacrifice
5. When Jesus returns (the Second Coming):
- The New Heavens and New Earth will fully reflect the holiness of God’s kingdom
- God’s presence will once again dwell fully on earth
- We receive our full inheritance as God’s children = eternal life with God in our resurrected bodies
Summary:
As God called Abraham to "go" to give him a Promised Land, Jesus calls His followers to “go” and reclaim the whole world for God’s blessing. Whereas in the Old Covenant God dwelt WITH His people (in the Temple), in the New Covenant God dwells IN His people through the Spirit. By the Spirit’s power, God’s Kingdom will continue to grow on the earth until Jesus returns in victory! On that day, God’s presence will again fill the whole Earth. He will reign as the uncontested King, and we will receive our full inheritance as His children.
About this Plan
This plan is a guide to discover God’s story as it unfolds in the Bible - from Genesis through Revelation. Over 12 days, each devotional will introduce one part of that story. Each will list the Scripture passages covering that period, and dates, highlight its main points and briefly summarize the part it plays within the context of God’s redemptive plan. The Bible reading each day should take about 30 minutes.
