Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 8Sample
Division is something that can easily happen in a family. Maybe your brother does not get along with one of your cousins, or you have a favourite uncle and that causes strife between your other uncles. There are big and small things that could cause division amongst people.
In the context of the 1 Corinthians 1:
The church was divided in the sense that some members pledged their allegiance to Paul, some to Apollos and others to Cephas. Paul then had to remind them that we all belong to Jesus. If anyone should declare loyalty, they should pledge theirs to Christ. We are all members of one body (Christ). We cannot claim oneness if the body is separated.
Psalm 133:1-3
It is good and beautiful when a family is united. No one, in their heart, is happy when a family is fighting. We all want our families to be united. It is the same desire for the family of Christ, that we always stand united. Paul had to remind the church in Corinth that we belong to one Person, and we came into this family through and because of him.
John 13:35
Love is the action language of the family of Christ. People around us will know that we are the people of Christ by the way we love ourselves, but also how we love those around us. The truth is we cannot love those around us, we cannot do it within our family, and people would less likely desire to join a divided family. We were called by love, to love, through love. The good news is that the Holy Spirit is always available to help us.
