Daily Bible Reading – August 2023, God’s Saving Word: EncouragementSample
August 23
Introduction
Timothy is given further advice regarding responsibilities toward believers. Widows are to be cared for, and particular instructions are given concerning who should be treated as a widow.
Scripture Reading
1 Timothy 5:1-25
Today’s Key Verse: 1 Timothy 5:25b
Good deeds are plainly seen, and even those that are not so plain cannot be hidden.
Reflect
The term "widow" in today's reading referred to a woman devoted to ministry who didn’t have a male relative or other family members to take care of her needs. What are your thoughts about verses 3-16, concerning widows? What roles do women have in your community of faith?
Pray
Loving God, bless the ministries of women and empower them to use their gifts in ways that enhance and grow your kingdom. In Jesus's name, I pray. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
1 Timothy 6:1-21: The apostle Paul concludes the letter with final instructions for Timothy.
