Becoming a Son

When the Spirit of God comes to live with us, we make the decision to trust Jesus and follow Him. We become co-heirs with Him, and therefore, sons. Sonship applies to both men and women. It simply means that we are God’s children, and we have an opportunity to live on mission with Jesus.

In biblical times, only male children received their father’s inheritance. But with God, we are all able to inherit salvation. He loves us and He will supply every one of our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). He takes care of us so that we can focus only on being His child and letting Him be in charge of our life.

The only way to become a son is to be led by the Spirit. Are we being led by the Spirit? Could we do a better job of leaning into the nudgings that the Holy Spirit gives to us? When we subject ourselves to God’s leading, we take part in His grand strategy. He may bring a thought to mind that challenges us to follow Him and live an on-mission life ministering to others. The first step is to clock in and tell God that we are available to be led by the Spirit as His son.
